"With the aim of raising £400,000, The Booby Birds Fund will make a real difference to thousands of women in Scotland whose lives have been affected by breast cancer.

I'm Sally-Anne Hunter, one of 20 Booby Birds, who have committed to undertake a personal challenge and in the process individually raise £20,000. The other 19 completed a sky dive in September and as I could not sky dive for medical reasons and I somehow agreed to do something petrifying and have taken up the challenge to fly solo in a micro light!

Having lived in Gullane for many years, I have often seen microlights flying over head and have dreamed of flying but have never had the courage until now to fulfil that dream. As many of us are, I was petrified on that very first experience flight! With the help of Jill and Gordon Douglas and East of Scotland Microlights, I have been having regular flying lessons and am now "bashing circuits" and want to work towards my PPL I am that hooked! Each lesson there has been something to conquer and something to fear (flying, taxiing, turning, remembering STAMP and CHIEF TAP and LIFE and ATP and HASEL, stalling, take off, landing, circuits ….) and something to be absolutely elated about (all of the things already mentioned as well as the experience of flying – touching clouds, Brocken spectre, looking down at seals like slugs on the Bass Rock and seeing my house like it should be in a miniature legoland)

My flying has been my personal challenge and is the focus of my fundraising for the Booby Birds fund.

If you feel inspired to find out more about the Booby Birds go to www.boobybirds.co.uk. And if you are moved to sponsor me then go to http://www.scottishcf.org/page11748.cfm remembering to choose my name (Sally-Anne Hunter) from the drop down menu.

Thanks for your support.
